I found this link on a members signature on another forum...had to stop by and check it out. Ive been in the hobby since 2001. Been an addict ever since. Ive kept lots of different stuff but then i got hooked on african cichlids. My favorites are the lake victoria cichlids. Looking forward to get to know you all.

I believe this is my burundi frontosa, but it could be one of my mpimbwe blue. I guess you guys will know, lol I am so bad with them because they all look very similar right now. He is still only about 3-3 1/2". I know I have 2 mpimbwe blue and 1 burundi.

My tank turned out really good. I liked it so much i painted my other tank as well. I was so happy with the coloration of my fish now. It is amazing how much better the colors of my fish are.

I did some test panels before i paint my big tanks. I like the metallic turquoise/black but am afraid it will overpower the fish and make people look at the background instead of the fish LOL. Tell me what you think.

We luckily didn't lose a single discus due to all the changes and the nitrite spike we had. They are all looking absolutely gorgeous now with all their spunk and colors back. Here are the pictures, definitely rewarding fish to keep And they are not the same fish in any of the pictures, we have 7 in total (the last picture is the little yellow discus being shy)

Water changes and plant health

Hi cc, I have a plant question for you (or anyone else who might know).

I was just wondering if too many water changes are detrimental to aquatic plants, specifically java fern?

I am terrible with plants and can kill just about anything. My java ferns started out nice, produced babies, but after awhile they stopped growing and started turning brown, getting little holes in them, and just disintegrating.

Convicts breeding again

Well here we go again. Big Donkey and his wife have decided to start clearing rocks again, so I think they will do the deed again soon. And our other pair of convicts in the 20 gallon have little wigglers all over inside one of the decorations. I was wondering why they were spending all their time in behind it, so I lifted it out yesterday and peeked and sure enough, they have the wigglers. What will I do with all these babies? I might have to separate the males and females for a while

alright i know im not the only one on here who has some WTF stories about there fish/tanks. ill start it off but i warn u, the emotionally weak may want to turn away now, because its about to get messy in here.

me and my buddy were doin water changes on a bunch of my 20L's, i had bamboo shrimp colony in one and we had just gotten done changing it out and my bud was lookin at the tank and is like dude can u hear that? it sounds like a lite ticking noice. ...

We just put the slate in on friday, and they love it. It also gives them much more hiding than they had before. I might still remodel it slightly, maybe move some of the plants around. The left side is kind of cut off, I couldn't get the whole tank in one picture

Today I noticed a couple of my african cichlids with ich. I have no clue how it got transfered, but I am leaning toward the possibility that my africans had it first, and when I took some water out of that tank to put in the 90 gallon discus tank (the water parameters are the same) to help cycle it again, I must have transported the ich over. I think the only reason the community tank got such a bad case of it is because the water parameters were screwed up and water quality was poor at the ...

Got these at Sam's Club for <$7.00 20 in a pack

Slightly bigger but no trimming required. No need to even disassemble the gray boxes.

Perfect fit, no trimming necessary Easy and cheap as heck, about 34 cents a piece.

I am using a diy canister for my bio, But these may work also, I'm just not sure how long they would hold to biweekly washings, they may loose their stiffness.

But Put one before your bio cartridge and replace it or rinse it when it gets clogged ...

I was offered a group of breeding F1 polits. There is one gorgeous male and 4 females. I have already seen these guys and they are very nice and he had 3 of the females holding last time I was there. Unfortunately he wants $75 for the whole group. I wanted to find out from any of you if this sounds like a fair deal or that it is not worth it. If I can get him down to $65 for the group would this still be too much?

I am happy to say that I think most of my discus are completely out of the woods. Most of them ate tonight, and they have their colors back. Only 1 of them have the ich but with treatment it should help it go away. Here is a picture of one of the wild caughts!

Today we went to the LFS to do some pricing on tanks. We saw a tank full of electric blues, so we decided to pick up 2 of their females for our male. They were $7 each, and they are now in the 45 gallon with the male. Hopefully he will color up nicely now I will get pictures when they settle in!!!

Finally after waiting three weeks for the chance to go to burnco and pick up some slate, we were able to today. Nice thing is, we showed it to the girl who helped us and she let us take it home for free What a great deal that was, I guess sometimes it pays off to wait a while I will finally get some nice pictures of the african set up once we change things around.
