Got these at Sam's Club for <$7.00 20 in a pack

Slightly bigger but no trimming required. No need to even disassemble the gray boxes.

Perfect fit, no trimming necessary Easy and cheap as heck, about 34 cents a piece.

I am using a diy canister for my bio, But these may work also, I'm just not sure how long they would hold to biweekly washings, they may loose their stiffness.

But Put one before your bio cartridge and replace it or rinse it when it gets clogged ...

This is not my original idea, I had help from another forum.

Cheap lighting was the main goal here. A few months ago I did a DIY moonlight for my 7yo daughter's tank. I got the idea from another forum, but it worked great! Walmart sells these nightlights for about $2 a piece or less.

ON DAUGHTER"S TANK:

These led's are made by "Meridian" they are labeled as blue, it took me over a month for me to find them, wally world was sold out, but now they always ...

Framed in around bottom as well as top. The wood was already this color, he just rubbed the same oil that he uses to finish his gun stocks to polish wood and give it a finished look. I am so lucky!

Here's an old diy canister I've had hooked up a while.

I have 2 of these, this one was the "experimental" model just to see if it would work. I glued in hose barbs in this model, hence the extra can of cement They do make threaded hose barbs if you want to make it prettier. The second is about the same but better construction and reversed flow and filled with pot scrubbers.

This one is the polisher.

Water goes in the side/ come out the top.

Hey~

Some of you here have commented on the background I have started to use for my tanks…. and asked me to do a simple DIY for this easy to complete background that shows well, lasts well, and is much less work intensive than the DIY backgrounds using Great Stuff expandable foam, quickrete, and paint.

It’s very simple really, as a guy who is not a fan of the “Great Stuff Backgrounds” (although very cool, they interfere with my HOB filters and take away too much space from a thinner ...

Has anyone ever used picture frames for stand/cabinet doors? I picked up a few small unfinished frames from the dollar store today with an idea of just putting some luan inside them and hinges. They seem too small once I got them home. I may use them for something else now. But I found some bigger ones at walmart that look pretty nice, If I get some decent plywood, it seems this would work pretty well.

Anyone ever try this? Got any pics?

No time to do it this week, but my fry tank stand ...

Well I am in the planning stages for my first plywood tank. This stingray is going to need a new house. Apparently this species is one of the smallest so I will not go too crazy, I think The dimensions will be 72"x36"x24".

I will post all the pics and products I use. I guess I am going on another job out of town so it may be a bit before I get started but I will be doing it fairly soon.

If anyone has any pointers or ideas let em fly.

Went to the "beauty-supply" store yesterday

They have these bottles for applying hair color. Original idea was to use it to strip some females. The tip is small and pointed, easy to fit in a fish's mouth. They had a $.69 version also but the bottle was thinner. Well, stripped the mom, oops I miscalculated by a week! Had another bottle and decided to try and make a tumbler out of it. Just poked a few holes around the "bottom perimeter" to let the water out. Inserted ...

Since everyone has such great project ideas, I thought i'd put an easy cheap one out there for those who never thought of this. This is great for when you are buying filter media in containers that don't come in bags. Instead of spending all that money on boxes of media bags, go out and buy yourself a pair of cheap pantyhose. The feet sections work the best for holding the media, but you can use the whole thing by tying the ends and stuffing it with the amount of media necessary. You can get ...
