Today I noticed a couple of my african cichlids with ich. I have no clue how it got transfered, but I am leaning toward the possibility that my africans had it first, and when I took some water out of that tank to put in the 90 gallon discus tank (the water parameters are the same) to help cycle it again, I must have transported the ich over. I think the only reason the community tank got such a bad case of it is because the water parameters were screwed up and water quality was poor at the ...

Well it has been 4 days now since I have changed the substrate in the discus tank. One of our wild caught discus is looking very stressed and not well He is really dark in color and he still has all his fins really clamped. Earlier today he was resting at the bottom not moving much, but now he is at least in the open floating mid tank. The ammonia levels are down, but the nitrites are still about 0.8ppm. I did another water change today and put more salt and some melafix in. I am hoping this ...

I bit the bullet and went and picked up a hospital tank-got a 10gal, a powerhead, and a hood. Also picked up some "cycle", and some fungus medication.

The strategy is this: Take chiclets that look fungus-y or acting sick and put them in here for a while and see how they do.

I used my bio sponge and about 5gal of the original tank water. I added medication and cycle to the tank. So far the water parameters are better on my aide station(MASH aquarium) than on my 55g. That was easy-so ...

As of yesterday evening, my pearl white zebra died from what was a case of the bloat. Kind of interesting considering none of my fish have had anything other than flake food, be it spirulina or omega cichlid flake. I treated the tank to hopefully head off an offensive strike, or an "inside job" lol-

i am setting up a new 10 gallon fry tank i got for free from my neighbor. i am doing a fishless cycle have never try a fishless cycle. i have pour half half the tank with my 60gallon water and the other half with my tap water (condintioner as well). it is running by a new sponge filter and an old 10gallon HOB whisper from my 20gallon (will this help?). so how can i get this tank cycle without fish?

I have a Pearl White Zebra that may have the bloat-actually, among the several other fish, he is the only that just stopped eating, and looks as if he was sliced open at the bottom on his belly. He swims fine, and is not sluggish, and he isnt fatted-should I treat the whole tank for it?

I was wondering if anyone knew what could be causing my female kenyis to be bloated. We lost one of them this morning, and the other one we have looks like her tummy is bloated too. They were in the 25 gallon tank for a couple weeks, and were fine up until a few days ago. I took them out of it because I wanted to separate the females from the male for a week then put them back in after, to see if it will help with them breeding. But I noticed the morning before I removed them, that they had bloated ...

Ok guys it has been 3 weeks since I have started my fish on the NLS food. But we are still using up some of our old food, so they don't get just the NLS. The protomelas is the one who has shown the most difference in color, before he was always a drab brown, but now the yellow and blue are very bold. Here is a picture of him....not a very good picture, he moved around too much and fast lol.

Before NLS:

After NLS:

He is now a great looking fish

Apologies first if I've put this in the wrong section but was just hoping for some clarification on fishless cyling. I've heard 2 theorys, one is that once it's completed you should stock your tank asap before the bacteria reduces, and the other being just to add them slowly which is what I'm doing. Any ideas?

After my tank swap and move of stocks my dominant Northern Blue went on a rampage and managed to get hold of my female flavus, resulting in a severe bite to her side.

The pics below show how bad the wound is, a whole chunk of skin has been torn away leaving the muscle exposed. I have decided to do this thread as think there is a good chance that this girly will make a full recovery (although she may be scarred) as the wound is not infected and there is no sign of fungus.
