Water changes and plant health

Hi cc, I have a plant question for you (or anyone else who might know).

I was just wondering if too many water changes are detrimental to aquatic plants, specifically java fern?

I am terrible with plants and can kill just about anything. My java ferns started out nice, produced babies, but after awhile they stopped growing and started turning brown, getting little holes in them, and just disintegrating.

The plants are in a fry tank so the water is changed about three times a ...

I was doing some searching around and the only test kit we could find was one that cost $28. We brought it home to find out that it was missing a part to it. So I returned it and one of the guys pulled this other one out that only cost $17, which to me is a better deal. It is made by Red sea. All you do is fill it with a bit of tank water, add a few drops of indicator, put the lid back on, flip it around and suction it to the side of the tank. Easy enough for me and I only have to change it with ...

Ok, this is for those who want to know how java ferns grow daughter plants, or what I call them is babies. And also the best way to remove them. Here are some pictures first of all, there are 2 different types of java ferns I have below, don't mind the brown spots, they have been like that since we bought them, but the new growths don't look like that, they are nice and green

Type A: Adult leaf

Type A: With new growth

Type A: after I have removed the baby plant

I set this tank up about 2 months ago and cycled it

with one peacock and mature filter pads. I placed

terestreal plant cuttings (pothos) that had already

rooted in back of the tank. I placed the 7 gal. tank in

the south window of my little fish room so algae would

flourish also. There is 7-8 anubius in the sand substrate.

4 weeks ago I removed the peacock and

added 17 Red zebra fry. I have done NO water changes,

only top off water as it evaporates. I tested for nitrates

I know that it can be very difficult to keep plants with african cichlids, especially things like lake malawi cichlids. The herbivores love to eat the plants. So here are a few suggestions if you are wanting to keep some plants in with yours. We have found the types of plants that worked best with our africans are amazon swords, anubias, java fern, onion plants, and dracena. We have mixed some seachem fluorite in the gravel around each of the plants, as well have fertilizer sticks pushed in by ...
